Travel into the cool Alajuela highlands for an afternoon at La Paz Waterfall Gardens. The nature park combines rainforest walking trails, waterfall viewpoints and educational wildlife exhibits in one location, with transportation, admission, a bilingual guide and buffet lunch included.

What you will see

Explore attractions such as the aviary, butterfly observatory, hummingbird garden, serpentarium, frog exhibit, feline area and historical house. Animals in managed exhibits can be seen reliably, while any wild animals encountered along the trails remain unpredictable.

The waterfall route descends through rainforest to several viewpoints. The park reports more than 3.5 km of trails and hundreds of stairs. Paths are paved but can be steep, wet and slippery. A shuttle normally collects visitors near the lower exit so they do not have to climb the entire waterfall staircase back to the main area.

Weather and walking level

The park ranges from roughly 4,200 to 5,200 feet in elevation. Conditions may be cool, misty or rainy even when the Central Valley is sunny. Wear shoes with traction and bring a light layer and rain protection.

The complete route is moderate rather than easy. Families can visit the exhibits, but small children need supervision on stairs. Guests with limited mobility should confirm a shortened or accessible route before booking.
